Norwegian Seamen’s Church

January 25th, 2012

Stellar Development was selected to construct the latest Norwegian Seamen’s Church and Scandinavian Center in Davie, FL. The Church of Norway has churches at ports all over the world to provide worship and meeting facilities for the seafaring lifestyle of the Scandinavian people. This project consists of a 12,000 square foot Rectory Building to house the Church staff, a new 3,200 SF church addition and chapel, and a 5,650 square foot community center. The exterior finish is Hardie siding with intricate trellis work throughout the site. The Chapel is highlighted by extensive LED lighting and exposed heavy timber trusses and the Community Center is featured by an exposed ceiling and “cloud” acoustical ceiling system. The original site was used as a dump by a previous owner requiring approximately 100 loads of trash to be removed and 36,000 cubic yards of dirt imported to get the site to a buildable and environmentally safe condition. The initial “demucking” phase of the project took approximately 4 months to complete. Work began on the project in June of 2010 and was completed in October of 2011.
